Many of you have come to think of Black White Read as the newsletter in your e-mail inbox. Since this will be your last regular issue, it's time for one more goodbye.

For a large majority of our regular readers, the Daily Digest has become their "portal" into the Black White Read Web site. Today's Digest is the last regular issue you will receive. We may stay in touch as plans for some sort of "evergreen" Black White Read sites take shape.

Black White Read Editor Bruce Felps has announced here that he will continue the East Dallas online tradition with a new rag called East Dallas Times (eastdallastimes.com).

From us here at Black White Read, we want you to know that we fully support Bruce and his new publication, and wish him great success.

Many of you have enjoyed Bruce's subtle (?) brand of humor in our pages. I suspect you'll get a little more over at the new publication, since he won't have me to get all wet-blanket-y on him. Should make for fun reading. I know I'm going to like it, especially since I won't have to field the phone calls and e-mails from irate readers.

It's going to take a village to support East Dallas Times. That means you. Bruce is going to go with a voluntary subscription model, at least for now, and he'll need every one of you to pony up. For the cost of a clichéd tall mocha Frappuccino a month, you can have a clichéd venti Felps every day.

Make it skinny, though. He can get so wordy.

Since I’m a high-powered executive [snicker], I have an office with a window.

I watched a bit ago as a Sanitation Services trucked rumbled down my street — Richmond Avenue, which goes all front curb collection come Monday — and crew members checked the gray bins still lining the street, after the recent distribution, to see if the bins contained any refuse.

A fair number of blue bins also line the street even through we received recycling collection last Thursday as part of the every-other-week schedule, which will be no more with the dawn of OneDay.

A bit later, I heard the truck in the alley, where bagged-trash collection has taken place. The crews appear to be pulling double duty today leading up to the effective date of March 1, Monday, for OneDay to go live.

To paraphrase the immortal Sally Field — OK, immortal’s probably just a tad overboard — you like us, you really do like us.

The outpouring of condolences to Steve Crozier’s announcement of our pending shutdown, all the e-mail messages I’ve received, and the personal response I experienced during a recent event showed me that our readers genuinely gain a little something from Black White Read.

Evidently, we’re not seen as a waste of cyberspace.

Many thanks to all of you who weighed in. Your kind words and good wishes validate all that we’ve tried to accomplish here.

You’ve also inspired me and given me hope that a spinoff version just might succeed. I’ll have more to say about it in the next — notice I didn’t say “last” — installment of White Rock’s Edge, which hits a computer screen near you a bit later tonight.

The FOX4 report on Red Cat Consignmen — here's the video from the broadcast — really didn’t tell us anything new, did it?

It did, though, contain some nice photos from Kate Mackley, our photo editor.

Another thing it did was to confirm the evasiveness we encountered.
